The Story Behind Inversions Counselling
The Story
It was an early morning hiking adventure that inspired my practice name. At 4.30am I set off with a head torch and micro-spikes towards the summit of Roy’s Peak, New Zealand. My guide taught me about inversion clouds; a phenomenon where cold air settles below warm air to create a flat blanket of cloud. From below it looks like there would be no mountain views at all.
I persevered upwards through the dark, mist and ice, unsure about what waited above the inversion cloud. Slowly the cloud thinned and glimmers of sunrise appeared. The effort and precariousness of the climb was rewarded with a clear and new perspective; a breathtaking view of mountain peaks above the inversion cloud.
For me, this mirrors the counselling process. Together we step onto a path with some uncertainty about where it will lead. Just as my guide provided knowledge, tools and support for the climb, I offer to journey with you towards new insights and possibilities that could not be seen before.
About Me
I grew up on a farm in North East Victoria. This grounding start helped shape my values and capacity to embrace life’s realities. My career began in Medical Radiations Science; an experience that fostered a deep interest in and understanding of therapies supported by brain imaging and neuroscience.
Jesus said “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3). The name of my practice also incorporates an important concept of my Christian faith. When we are poor in spirit there is rich opportunity to more fully know a God who wants to bless; an upside-down phenomenon just like inversion clouds.
